Booklet produced for those facing mortgage repayment problems
03/04/2009
Consumers experiencing difficulties repaying their mortgages are to have access to a new booklet offering them advice.
Produced by the Building Societies Association (BSA) and the Money Advice Trust, the resource provides information on what to do if repayments cannot be met.
According to its producers, the booklet addresses some "urban myths" surrounding the issue of mortgage repayment difficulties.
Paul Broadhead, head of mortgage policy at the BSA, said: "Struggling borrowers should contact their building society as soon as possible.
"If they read this booklet, the guidance contained in it will alleviate any fears they have about their home being immediately repossessed."
In addition, it will give them sufficient information to be able to contact their lender with confidence to discuss their arrears, he added.
The BSA is the trade association for the UK`s building societies. According to the organisation, more than 50 such financial service providers exist in Britain.
