Single Brits `avoid debt problems easier`
25/02/2008
British consumers who find themselves to be single are also better off financially than their counterparts in relationships, new research has suggested.
The average British single person is £255.42 better off each month, according to a poll by Fool, which could help consumers seeking debt advice.
Those in a relationship spend almost double each month on takeaways and DVD nights in, compared with their single friends, while rent is often 40 per cent cheaper for single people.
David Kuo, head of personal finance at Fool, said: "Money can`t buy you love, but it can help to ease the burden as pay day gets further away and the bills start rolling in.
"We`re not suggesting that money will ever replace the warm glow we feel from our loved ones, but if you can`t be with the one you love, then learn to love your wallet!"
According to Credit Action, the average UK consumer owed £4,713 in personal loans and credit cards at the end of December.
