Many Brits `failing to make a will`
11/02/2008
Nearly a third of people in the UK will not leave any money to family and friends to help ease debt problems if they die, a new study has revealed.
According to research by Friends Provident, 31 per cent of Brits do not want to make a will to help ease the financial problems of loved ones.
However, a number of Britons are planning for their futures, with more than a third - 38 per cent - expecting to leave an inheritance of up to £300,000 and almost a fifth expecting to leave more than this.
James Ward, director of marketing at Friends Provident, said: "Where there is a will there is a way… to determine exactly where your hard earned cash and assets go when you die.
"Our research found that 43 per cent of people don`t currently have a will but do plan to make one - let`s hope it`s something they decide to put into action soon rather than delaying."
Further research from Friends Provident found that nearly half of people are "ignorant" about inheritance tax.
