British women are "financially overweight"

Women are not as "financially fit" as their male counterparts, with many having to seek professional debt advice, an industry expert has claimed.
A number of women spend less time than men reviewing their finances and continue spending until they become "financially overweight", Abbey stated.
People should be "focused" on their outgoings as a result of recent high profile financial events in order to keep debts under control, Nici Audhlam-Gardiner, head of mortgages at Abbey, said.
Ms Audhlam-Gardiner added: "The other big thing for women is they tend to save up less than men do, so actually about 70 per cent of women say that they don`t have savings for any more than three months."
Abbey is the sixth biggest bank in the UK.
