Credit cards "much better" than store cards
11/12/2007
Shoppers hitting the stores this festive season should stay away from store cars and use credit cards instead, an industry expert has suggested.
Consumers should stay "very disciplined" with their debt management and avoid the high interest rates on the majority of store cards, Which? claimed.
Comparing interest rates on credit cards and store cards should be at the forefront of consumer`s minds when going around the shops this Christmas to avoid debt problems in the new year, Paul Davies, head of money research at Which?, said.
He added: "People are becoming more aware of the different rates that are on offer and they`re also becoming more accustomed to comparing products on a like for like basis, so hopefully once they do their own research, they come to the same decision."
According to Credit Action, the average consumer owes £4,678 on credit cards, overdrafts and unsecured personal loans.
