Calls to reinstate debt advice group grow
16/10/2007
Pressure is growing on the government to reinstate a key debt advice consultancy after it was scrapped earlier this month.
The dissolution of the Better Payment Practice (BPP) Group, which helps both individuals and small businesses with debt advice and instructions on late payments, was suggested by the Department for Business, Enterprise and Regulatory Reform two weeks ago, VUNet.com reports.
However, a number of financial institutions are called for the government to reverse its decision, as there is no replacement for the BPP Group. Dennis Scott, commercial director of online credit advice centre, e-bcm, said that the government should not be "abandoning" people like this.
Mr Scott added: "We know from our own work with customers that the problem is getting bigger not smaller and disbanding the Better Payment Practice Group is a move in entirely the wrong direction."
The BPP Group was formed in 1997.
