Many debt inquiries `related to everyday expenses`

18/07/2007

Many of the people who have sought advice on debt management in the past year were struggling with everyday expenses, it has been claimed.

Some 60 per cent of those who visited West Oxfordshire`s Citizens` Advice Bureau during the past twelve months were seeking debt help, the Witney Gazette reports.

Office Manager Barbara Shaw told the publication that many of these people were facing problems with managing their regular payments.

"Many of these debts relate to everyday living expenses, such as fuel and housing costs," she said.

"The increase in fuel debt problems reflects recent rises in prices and people`s difficulties, particularly those over pension age, in keeping up payments."

Recently, chief executive of MoneyExpert.com Sean Gardner warned that the financial effect of missing one credit card payment can last as long as three years.
