Debt `is not the biggest cause of misery for Britons`
30/05/2007
Despite numerous news stories about the rising debt crisis in Britain, financial problems are not the biggest cause of emotional stress and unhappiness, according to a recent study.
UK dating service Parship found that fewer than 20 per cent of single people cited financial issues such as credit card debt as a major source of stress.
In comparison, the survey revealed that 51 per cent of those who are single worry most about loneliness and the chance that they might never meet someone special.
Parship`s relationship and dating expert Dr Victoria Lukats commented: "The headlines trumpet that £1 billion worth of debt is causing misery for thousands, but the truth is that loneliness is causing misery for six million singles.
"People are more likely to associate stress and its symptoms with debt and work pressures. However, the figures speak for themselves."
Work was the most worrying issue for 18 per cent of respondents, while seven per cent said family problems were stressful.
Parship has more than 2.7 million members.
