`Fewer families have money left after debt payments`
10/05/2007
Fewer families are finding themselves with money left to spend after making all their debt repayments, a wealth management expert has said.
Julia Clayworth, wealth management customer marketing manager at Legal & General, was commenting after Legal & General`s latest MoneyMood Survey found that the average household`s expenditure has fallen.
She said: "MoneyMood found that the percentage of households who said they have money to spend after paying bills and debt payments has fallen steadily from 61 per cent to 58 per cent over the three years."
However, she added that "the majority of households are still in a position to save rather than struggling to make ends meet".
Another finding of the survey is that 60 per cent of UK adults reported being in the mood to save at the end of April, up from 57 per cent for the same time in 2006.
Legal & General has surveyed almost 30,000 Britons in the past three years to arrive at their monthly figures.
