Registering to vote could improve credit rating
12/04/2010
An article in the Guardian reports how Britain`s credit reference agencies are urging people to register on the electoral roll - because it could help to improve their credit rating.
This advice could be particularly important for those who are worried about their debts - or their finances in general - and looking to improve their credit score.
The article reports that `if you are not on [the electoral roll], you may find it more difficult to get a loan, credit card or insurance.`
Whenever an individual applies to take on debt, their potential lender(s) will, in most cases, check the information recorded about their potential customer in the files of the three main credit reference agencies - Equifax, Experian and Callcredit.
This information will let the lender(s) know, among other things, whether the individual is up to date with their debt repayments, and they will use this to help them decide whether they want to lend to that person.
Registering on the electoral roll makes it easier for lenders to confirm an individual`s address/residential status and identity, which is vital information when it comes to applying for new credit.
