Debt news: 100 Scots to go bankrupt every day in 2010
06/01/2010
According to accountants and business advisers Pannell Kerr Forster (PKF), around 100 Scots will go bankrupt every working day throughout 2010, scotsman.com reports.
PKF states that `unemployment and the possibility of rising interest rates will tip a total of 24,000 people into financial ruin in 2010` as they struggle to make their debt repayments.
Meanwhile, in the last three weeks running up to Christmas, 2,212 Scots were made bankrupt due to unmanageable debts.
Bryan Jackson, corporate recovery partner with PKF, said: "It is to be hoped many Scots will start the year as they mean to continue and seek to reduce their debts and ease their financial problems."
A spokesperson for Debt Advisers Direct commented: "The figures from PKF show that huge numbers of people are struggling with unmanageable debt, and this highlights the importance of seeking professional debt advice as soon as it becomes clear that there`s a problem."
