PayPal issues personal detail warning
26/04/2007
People need to be careful about what information they reveal to strangers, according to online payment service PayPal.
Research from the company suggests that 6.6 million people in Britain make public their personal problems to people who they do not know at work.
PayPal indicates that this can be dangerous if people divulge private information of a financial nature, as strangers could use these details to their benefit. This situation could occur if people are discussing their debt problems, for example.
Cristina Hoole from PayPal remarks: "The research has revealed that people in Britain aren`t backwards in coming forwards and seem to have a no holds barred policy when it comes to revealing information about themselves."
However, "people need to be careful about giving away too much information such as financial or medical details to people they do not know", as this can leave them open to unscrupulous people, she added.
Personal finance problems can be discussed privately with debt management companies and they can offer professional advice on the next steps to take.
