Debt taken on through credit cards down 8.2%

Figures from the British Bankers` Association (BBA) have revealed that the amount of debt taken on through credit cards in October was 8.2% lower than this time last year.
In October, new spending on credit cards totalled £5.7bn.
Meanwhile, the amount of credit card debt repaid was 6.3% lower than this time last year - with £6.0bn being paid off in October.
The amount of debt taken on through personal loans totalled £1.2bn in October, which was 36.0% lower than a year earlier.
A spokesperson for Debt Advisers Direct commented: "Credit card debt can end up costing considerably more to repay than expected - it`s important that anyone struggling to repay their debt contacts a professional debt adviser before it becomes unmanageable."
