Lower online energy bills could help people in debt
25/09/2009
According to figures from uSwitch.com, the average online energy bill has fallen below £1,000 for the first time this year, headlinemoney.co.uk reports.
With energy suppliers again under pressure to lower their prices to take lower wholesale costs into account, Scottish Power has launched a new online plan costing an average of £975 a year.
As a result, the average online energy plan now stands at £988 a year - £251 cheaper than the average standard plan.
A spokesperson for Debt Advisers Direct commented: "Although energy bills are still a major expense, any reduction in the cost of energy is good news for billpayers - particularly those in debt.
"However, a reduction alone won`t be enough to help some people tackle their debts - so it is particularly important that anyone struggling to keep up with their financial commitments contacts a professional debt adviser without delay."
