Bank called upon to help poor in debt
26/08/2009
The Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS) has promised to look at proposals for a low-interest credit card for poor people, after religious leaders met with them to discuss debt, churchtimes.co.uk reports.
Religious leaders from London Citizens - a community organisation made up of more than 130 civic and religious groups - met with Andrew Cave, Head of RBS Corporate Sustainability, to discuss the possibility of a low-interest card to help poorer people access credit without being left with debts they can`t afford to repay.
Senior Lecturer in political theory at London Metropolitan University, Maurice Glasman, said: "Our congregations are experi¬encing terrible issues with personal debt."
A spokesperson for Debt Advisers Direct commented: "It is important that anyone struggling with their debts takes action as soon as possible. Individuals struggling to afford their credit card repayments should seek professional debt advice before their debts grow any larger."
