People `hiding debts` from loved ones
13/08/2009
Some 18.5 per cent of people who are in debt and in a relationship are hiding the true amount of what they owe from their spouse or partner, according to new research.
And rather than seeking debt help or addressing their personal finance issues outright, some 3.59 million people across the UK say they frequently delay opening their bank statements and 3.93 million say they often miss bill payments, according to Sainsbury`s Finance.
Some 3.88 million Brits who admit their current financial situation is "awful" may be interested in considering a debt management solution.
The latest statistics echo new figures published this week by the Insolvency Service, which noted a total of 33,073 personal insolvencies in the second quarter of 2009.
It pointed out that this represents a 27 per cent increase on the same period last year.
Independent advice about the different debt management options available is always the best port of call, Sainsbury`s head of Money Matters Karen Horsburgh commented.
