New course designed to help people with debt problems
06/08/2009
People experiencing debt problems are being offered the chance to participate in a course designed to help consumers deal with the stress of financial difficulties.
Run by Avon and Wiltshire Mental Health Partnership (AWP) and Swindon Citizens Advice Bureau, the course aims to provide assistance to those facing psychological problems associated with living with debt and redundancy.
Deputy-head of AWP`s primary care psychology service in Swindon Annette Law commented: "Since the credit crunch hit, we have seen an increase in the number of people accessing our services as they are finding it hard to cope with job loss and debt."
She added that one of the most significant benefits of the course is that it helps people in similar situations come together, reducing their feelings of isolation.
The courses last for six hours and run over a day or two three-hour evening sessions.
According to R3 president Peter Sargent, a wide variety of people - including solicitors, pub landlords and teachers - have been affected by debt problems as a result of the recession, the Times reported.
