New fund `could help reduce debt`

15/03/2007

New measures announced by the government yesterday could go towards reducing debt and helping people manage their money in a better way, according to Citizens Advice.

Teresa Pritchard, the charity`s director of policy, suggests that the new financial inclusion fund will help thousands of people who suffer from financial exclusion.

"Financial exclusion has a huge impact on thousands of the most vulnerable individuals and families in society," said Ms Pritchard.

"It can mean being in serious debt and not knowing how to get out, or not having a bank account, or not knowing how best to prevent financial problems."

She added that it is pleasing to see the government regarding financial inclusion as a high priority in its agenda.

Economic secretary to the Treasury Ed Balls announced the plans at an event held by the Resolution Foundation, an organisation that focuses on helping people with low incomes find ways to access financial services in the UK.
