British `cut back on eating out` to reduce risk of debt
17/07/2009
Annual sales in the `eating out` sector are expected to decline for the first time in nearly 40 years, according to the Financial Times, as consumers look to cut costs and reduce the pressure on their finances.
35% of people in a survey by Allegra Strategies reported having cut back on eating out in the last 12 months.
A spokesperson for Debt Advisers Direct said: "Consumers have been cutting back on various non-essentials in order to save money and lessen the risk of getting into debt, and eating out is one area that is easy to cut back on.
"Cutting back on unnecessary costs like this can be a good way for people in debt to ease the pressure on their finances, but it often isn`t enough to turn their financial situation around. Anyone who still finds themselves struggling should make sure they get professional debt advice as soon as they can."
