Borrowers could face long wait for free debt advice
16/07/2009
A recent report claims that Redbridge would be `one of the worst-affected boroughs in the capital` if free debt advice wasn`t available, according to thisislocallondon.co.uk.
One resident of Redbridge mentioned that her family`s situation was causing them a lot of stress, as she was unable to get an appointment with a debt advice organisation. She said: "We`ve tried to get an appointment with every advice centre going but they are all swamped."
A spokesperson for Debt Advisers Direct commented: "At a time like this, the debt advice sector is dealing with particularly high numbers of people who need help. This means that people may be waiting for longer to get free debt advice.
"Anyone looking for debt advice should not be put off by this. If they look around, they should be able to find an organisation that`s able to talk to them immediately. There are plenty of organisations offering free debt advice - and many of them work at the weekend and in the evening, making sure that everyone who needs help has an opportunity to call them."
