Consumer confidence up
05/06/2009
The latest consumer confidence report from Nationwide shows that the Consumer Confidence Index rose from 51 in April to 53 in May - an increase of two points.
Martin Gahbauer, Nationwide`s chief economist, said: "The more modest change in overall consumer confidence this month is no surprise and, as we continue to see contrasting news about the state of the economy, it is likely that confidence will remain fragile."
The report also shows that 28% of those questioned believe that Britain`s economy will be better in six months` time.
A spokesperson for Debt Advisers Direct said: "The increase in confidence may suggest that people are less worried - but it is important that they remain cautious about making purchases which they may not be able to afford.
"People who are in debt and want help managing their finances should contact a professional debt adviser."
