70% of companies `plan to freeze or cut pay`
28/04/2009
The latest British Chambers of Commerce (BCC) monthly business survey has suggested that 70% of companies are planning to freeze or cut staff wages this year.
In a survey of 400 companies across the UK, the BCC also said that half are considering making some staff redundant in the next six months.
The survey gives an insight into the way UK companies are coping with more difficult business conditions in the recession.
A spokesperson for Debt Advisers Direct commented: "The survey gives a clear warning to workers that conditions could get worse yet - and for that reason it`s more important than ever that people ensure their finances are in good condition.
"In particular, that means getting on top of any debts as soon as possible, since debt can be a big burden if money becomes tight."
