High debt levels `highlight importance of financial planning`
02/03/2007
Consumers are becoming more conscious of the need to plan their finances, according to a group of financial advisers.
This growth in awareness may be a result of an increasing number of people looking for advice about how to get out of debt, suggests the Association of Independent Financial Advisers (AIFA).
People who have serious financial problems or are looking for debt solutions sometimes turn to financial advisers, said AIFA spokeswoman Tracey Mullins.
This decision to seek help could reflect a rise in awareness regarding planning their finances.
"I think it is true that people are getting more used to the whole issue of financial planning. It may be because they have issues with debt," said Ms Mullins.
Some 1.4 million Britons who are shouldering more than £10,000 of unsecured debt claim that they are `quite likely`, `likely` or `certain` to take out an individual voluntary arrangement or declare themselves bankrupt, according to Credit Action.
