Consumer confidence falls back

09/04/2009

Consumer confidence fell slightly in March, according to a new report from Nationwide Building Society.

In its latest Consumer Confidence Index, Nationwide said that consumer confidence had fallen to 41 points - down from 43 in February, and back at the same level seen in January.

The report comes at a low point for the job market, with an estimated 2 million people currently unemployed, and many more facing the prospect of redundancy.

Meanwhile, personal debt problems appear to be on the rise, with KPMG claiming that the introduction of Debt Relief Orders will contribute to a 40% rise in personal insolvencies this year.
