`Worthy poor` worst affected by recession

A new report has suggested that the `worthy poor` - people who earn only just over the limit for claiming benefits - are the worst affected by the economic downturn.
The Low Earner`s Audit, carried out by the Resolution Foundation, found that 71% of this demographic group are finding it difficult to manage their finances in the recession.
According to The Telegraph, more than 13 million UK adults are classed as `low earners`, struggling to pay their bills and frequently getting into debt.
A spokesperson for Debt Advisers Direct said: "In a sense, those earning just above the boundaries for benefits are sometimes at a disadvantage when it comes to paying bills and repaying debt, since they are receiving no Government support.
"However, low earners who are struggling to repay debts should be aware that there is help out there. It`s essential that people in this situation seek professional debt advice as soon as the problem starts."
