‘Green’ home refurbishments could save billpayers money
16/02/2009
The Government has proposed a new scheme in which people will be assisted in making their homes ‘greener’, which could save the average billpayer £300 per year.
Energy and Climate Change Secretary Ed Miliband has announced that every home in the UK will be visited by teams of ‘energy advisers’, who will help to establish how each home could be made more energy efficient.
The scheme will see every home fitted with roof or wall insulation by 2015. By 2030, each home will be offered a ‘whole house’ refurbishment, including fitting renewable technology such as solar panels.
The announcement may be welcomed by the many billpayers who have struggled with rapidly rising costs of living over the past 18 months.
A spokesperson for Debt Advisers Direct commented: “Green energy schemes carry the benefit of reducing energy bills as well as being better for the environment. This scheme could help to reduce the amount of people getting into debt as a result of their fuel costs, which could be very important as traditional sources of energy become more scarce.”
