British Gas to cut gas prices by 10%
22/01/2009
Energy provider British Gas has announced it will cut its standard tariff gas prices by 10%, with effect from 19th February.
In early January, Scottish Power announced that it would be relaunching one of its fixed-price gas products with a 10% price reduction.
However, the BBC notes that observers have said that even if other energy companies make similar price cuts, it would be “too little and too late” to make a significant difference to winter fuel bills.
A spokesperson for Debt Advisers Direct commented: “Although this price cut does not compensate for the large price increases last year, it will still be welcomed by billpayers who are struggling to make payments.
“Anyone who finds themselves unable to make their bill payments at any point should speak to an expert debt adviser as soon as possible.”
