Retailers begin sales two days early
25/12/2008
Increasing numbers of retailers have started their sales two days earlier this year, in an attempt to make up for relatively low sales figures in the weekend before Christmas.
Retailers such as John Lewis, Superdrug and B&Q are opening their doors earlier than usual in an attempt to increase business in the midst of the economic crisis.
The news follows an unusually quiet weekend for British retailers, with Experian reporting an 8.7% decrease in shoppers hitting the high street – on a weekend that is usually the busiest of the year.
A spokesperson for Debt Advisers Direct commented: “The sales are a good opportunity for shoppers who are looking to save money and avoid debt. Retailers are likely to put on some good offers in these difficult market conditions.
“Of course, consumers should bear in mind that these are still difficult times, and they should still watch their spending in the coming months in order to avoid future debt problems.”
