Diesel prices fall below £1 per litre
09/12/2008
The price of diesel fuel has fallen below £1 per litre for the first time in over a year, after supermarket Morrisons cut its price by 5 pence per litre yesterday.
The move prompted BP, Asda and Sainsbury’s to follow suit, and diesel prices at many petrol retailers across the UK now stand at 99.9 pence per litre.
Supermarkets have been staging a ‘petrol price war’ in recent months, with unleaded petrol falling below £1 per litre in October – a move also triggered by Morrisons.
A spokesperson for Debt Advisers Direct commented: “This is good news for drivers of diesel-fuelled cars, as the gap between petrol and diesel prices had widened in the past few months.
“Peaking in July, fuel prices have pushed a lot of drivers towards debt this year, so the recent price cuts are making a big difference to the budgets of drivers right across the country.”
