Women feeling the "financial squeeze"

24/11/2008

Many women are likely to be experiencing greater stress then men during the credit crunch because they take more responsibility for their families` finances, it has been suggested.

According to Dr Rebecca Small, assistant clinical director at Bupa UK Health Insurance, female consumers are feeling pressured when it comes to paying the bills and shopping.

She said: "At this time when we are feeling the financial squeeze from every aspect of our lives from food shopping, to paying the bills, it is inevitable that some women will be feeling far more pressure and stress."

A survey conducted recently by Bupa found that six out of ten women fear for their finances, compared with less than half of men.

In addition, more than a third of women who worry about the health of their finances - potentially including those who have debt problems - have difficulty getting to sleep at night.
