Money worries `overtake terrorism as primary concern`
21/11/2008
Money troubles, potentially including debt problems, have overtaken terrorism as the issue considered to be the most important facing Britain.
According to a poll commissioned by AXA, 53 per cent of UK consumers feel that financial concerns are the single greatest issue facing the nation today, a rise of 21 per cent in 12 months.
Meanwhile, only three per cent of people ranked terrorism as the most important consideration, a fall of 20 per cent compared with last year, when it was ranked top.
"Money worries have a big impact on personal and professional relationships and in extreme cases they could even result in divorce and slower career progression, as people take out these frustrations on those around them," warned Steve Folkard of AXA.
A recent report from Abbey Banking found that 64 per cent of people questioned reported that they have to make sacrifices in their spending in the days leading up to payday.
