Bachelors forced to spend more
17/11/2008
People who live by themselves find it more difficult to save money, an expert has said.
Commenting on the issue, David Kuo, head of personal finance at Fool.co.uk, stated that many of the things consumers have to pay for - such as heating, council tax and mortgages - are unrelated to how many people are using them.
He said: "For instance if you are paying rent, it does not matter whether you have one person or two persons in the house, the rent is actually independent of the number of people there."
Mr Kuo went on to say that bachelors are probably spending twice the amount of money of people who are in relationships, potentially putting them at risk of getting into debt problems.
A survey conducted recently by celebrity magazine Grazia found that although 71 per cent of women are worried about the credit crunch affecting their lifestyles, 83 per cent said they are still shopping for clothes, accessories and beauty products at least once a week.
