Consumers `likely to be under pressure at Christmas`
05/11/2008
British consumers are likely to experience problems with their personal finances over the festive period this year because present conditions are preventing them from saving money, it has been suggested.
According to David Kuo, head of personal finance at Fool.co.uk, there are a considerable number of Britons who are "just living hand to mouth".
He said: "Part of the problem is that people have been squeezed so badly with their finances that it has been very difficult for them to put money to one side."
Mr Kuo went on to say that consumers should attempt to work out how much they expect to spend over Christmas and budget in some way.
This, he added, may prevent them from going into the New Year with a significant amount of debt.
Research conducted recently by Birmingham Midshires revealed that 78 per cent of consumers are taking steps to make their festive celebrations more affordable this year.
