Brits `wasting money` by not shopping around

11/06/2008

Nearly half of British consumers paid too much for their home insurance last year as they did not shop around for better deals, a new study has revealed.

According to research by Tesco Personal Finance, 44 per cent of Brits spent an extra £26 million last year as a result of paying too much on home insurance products.

At a time when finances are tight and debts are increasing, the company has urged consumers to make sure they look around the market first before settling on a deal - whichever sector of industry they are looking to purchase in.

The company`s Paul Baxter said: "Regardless of how loyal you are to your current home and contents insurer - you should shop around at each renewal to make sure you get the cheapest and most appropriate insurance for you."

Recent research from Swift Cover found that many female drivers are paying over the odds for their insurance premiums, despite taking up offers from so-called `female friendly` companies.
