Credit card firms `shouldn`t need extra evidence of fraud`
10/03/2008
Credit card companies should not require any extra evidence from UK consumers who submit a claim for money they have lost while shopping overseas, according to an industry expert.
An increasing number of consumers are claiming for lost cards which have, inadvertently, been used to create credit card debt.
Many companies state that they need extra evidence - such as a police report - in order to claim the money back or claim compensation. However Apacs, the UK trade association for payments, said that such evidence is not required.
Mark Bowerman, a spokesperson for Apacs, said: "The transaction would be on the statement and the credit card company would have records of it so they would just have to flag it up with their card company and the card company would tell them what they need to do."
