Follow common sense to avoid card fraud, says Apacs

22/02/2008

One of the pitfalls of taking out credit cards is that they can create debt problems if not used sensibly.

But while many people in the UK may be careful about how much they spend on their card, they might not be as vigilant when it comes to security.

London has been identified by card protection firm CPP as the hotspot for credit card fraud, with nearly one-third of its residents being affected.

However, payment association Apacs believes such a statistic could be reduced if more people took care of their details.

"As long as you are a cardholder who`s following common sense precautions you can minimise the chances of yourself becoming a victim - [they are] the same steps to take whether you`re in London or in Yorkshire," said Mark Bowerman, spokesperson for the organisation.

He added that cash machine fraud - which could also lead to bad debt for the victim - has spread from London to become a problem for the whole of the UK.
