Credit crunch not putting off holidaymakers
27/08/2008
A poll of the British public found three-quarters would still take a foreign holiday this year despite the credit crunch.
The survey, carried out in Leeds city centre, found less than 19 per cent of people were likely to change their holiday plans due to the economic squeeze. Just over six per cent said they were undecided.
One respondent, John Henderson, aged 22, said: "It hasn`t put me off this year, but I think it might next year."
Another consumer, Sylvia Evans, 62, added: "It did make me think twice, but didn`t actually put me off".
These comments suggest people are concerned about their finances but are not feeling the effects yet.
According to the 2008 ebookers Travel Opinion Report, 61 per cent of people were willing to cut back on supermarket luxuries in order to pay for holidays. Some 59 per cent and 46 per cent said they would cut down on clothes and groceries respectively.
Comparison site uSwitch has said this week that credit card spending is on the rise. For those planning to use credit cards to pay for a holiday, attention to spending may curtail credit card debts.
