Britons are becoming more generous with donating money to charity via their credit and debit cards, new research has revealed.
Despite rising levels of bankruptcy and personal debt in the UK, kind Brits donated over £1 billion on plastic cards to charities during 2007, a study by Apacs found.
The average Brit donated £44.75 on their plastic card during last year, with £1.1 billion out of the total £7.5 billion spent on cards donated to good causes both in the UK and abroad.
Sandra Quinn, director of communications at Apacs, said: "The first time many of us used our plastic to donate was on the back of the massive Asian tsunami appeal and since this time, the average monthly volumes and values donated to charitable organisations by card has continued to rise."
Recent research from Apacs found that Brits spend less than normal on their plastic cards over the festive season.
