Consumers should not be "complacent" over finances

Consumers should be "smart" and "savvy" with their personal finances to avoid debt problems which could lead to bankruptcy, an industry expert and television personality has claimed.

People should not be "complacent" about their finances, despite the rumours of an interest rate cut on the horizon, Channel 4 presenter Cesarina Holm-Kander stated.

If they do, then serious financial problems - such as a taking out an Individual Voluntary Arrangement or applying for bankruptcy - could occur.

Ms Holm-Kander said: "People just need to get very proactive. A lot of people are scared about personal finance and there`s absolutely no reason to be. Just get smart, get savvy and get informed."

Research by Your Money Matters found over a quarter of UK consumers believe that the value of the pound will plummet putting us in prime position for a full-blown recession.
